Communications and Engagement Business Unit

The Communications and Engagement Group is made up of four teams (Engagement & Indigenous Relations, Internal Communications Services, Media Relations, and the Regional Offices located in Vancouver, Montreal, and the North) that provide support for various internal and external projects at the Board.

Vice President, Communications and Engagement – Amy Jarek

Biographical Snapshot:

  • Ms. Jarek joined the NEB in September 2016.
  • She has more than 20 years of experience in the global energy industry.
  • Ms. Jarek previously worked as President of Wayword Consulting, as Global Group Sustainability and Environment Manager with Tullow Oil UK and as Vice President, Corporate Affairs with Talisman Energy Inc.
  • She has a rich background in issues management, communications, engagement, risk assessment, sustainability and governance initiatives.

Integrated Energy Information and Analysis Business Unit

The Integrated Energy Information and Analysis (IEIA) Business Unit monitors and develops comprehensive reports on North American energy markets and supply. In addition, IEIA leads the development of the National Energy Board’s regulatory framework, from consultation to guidance and implementation. As a part of the Board’s Transparency and Strategic Engagement group, the IEIA’s five teams (Regulatory Approaches, Energy Supply, Energy Markets, Energy Trade and Energy Integration) support Board Members and other government departments with detailed energy analysis, and provide information on energy matters to the Canadian public.

Vice President, Integrated Energy Information and Analysis – Jim Fox

Biographical Snapshot:

  • Mr. Fox started his career with the NEB as a regulatory economist in 1992.
  • He has served as a Director in several business units and has extensive experience in regulatory policy, energy information and process management.

Professional Leaders

Professional Leader, Strategic Communications – Tom Neufeld

Biographical Snapshot:

  • Mr. Neufeld joined the NEB in 2015
  • As a strategic communications professional, he has served in the public and private sectors for over 20 years.
  • He has held a number of positions within the government of Alberta, including service at the Energy Resources Conservation Board, the Public Affairs Bureau, and with the province’s Executive Council Office.
  • Highlights of his career include serving as the Provincial Spokesman for the 2011 Alberta Royal Tour of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and working as part of the flood recovery communications team that served in High River, Alberta following the province’s 2013 flood.
