Does the NEB regulate the exports of oil?

Yes. After an application from an exporter is received, the Board issues short-term export orders for up to one year for gasoline, distillates, jet fuel, heavy fuel oil and light crude oil, and for up to two years for heavy crude oil. There are no restrictions on volume, price or destination. After the export occurs, the exporter is required to file this and other information with the NEB. This information is aggregated and available on the NEB Web site.

The NEB also issues, pursuant to an application, long-term export licences for greater than one or two years and up to 25 years. Applications for licences require either a written or oral public hearing.
