My association with the National Energy Board, goes, a long time back. I had to deal with them when I was Minister of Indian and Northern Affairs, having to deal with the first oil and gas finding in the Northwest Territories and the McKenzie Delta, and after that I became the Minister of Energy Mine and Resources and for two years, and we had a lot of exciting things happening at that time. And I had to deal with this organization later on when I became Prime Minister when I was for ten years.
So for me, the sector of energy has always been a very important sector for me because basically my riding was based on resources. I am from rural Quebec and in my district we had a lot of paper mills and softwood lumber and a few mines and so on so it's a sector that had the same interest in the energy field because our products were made for export mostly. So I'm happy to see they're celebrating a great anniversary and I say thank you for the good work you've done.
I would like to say hello to the people of the Energy Board who worked for the government for the many years, I was with Northern Affairs. My association with the Board began when I was minister of Indian Affairs in 1968 and right up until I left as Prime Minister in 2003. I always had an excellent relationship with that organization which has served the interests of our country very well.
Thank you very much.
