"Hi everyone. A memorable experience for me at the Board when I was there from 1981 to 1983 was participating in the public hearing process. This was my first real job, and coming to the Board and having the opportunity to take part in the public hearings was really something. There was quite the protocol to follow, with the Members, the lawyers on each side introducing themselves, then presenting their arguments, and each of them trying to get their position across. And then there was the decision-making process. I had the opportunity to participate in the meetings at which the final decisions on a public hearing were made, and to meet some of the Board Members. I think this was one of the most important experiences I had at the National Energy Board.
One other thing I'd like to mention: when I arrived at the Board, one of the Members at that time, Livia Thur, asked me and one of my colleagues who had just arrived from the Université de Sherbrooke to meet with her. She invited us to have tea with her at noon and we talked for about half an hour. It was a great experience! I'd like to take this opportunity to thank Michel Scott and Ian Mizer – it's because of them that I worked at the National Energy Board, and I would like to mention them today.
Happy 50th Anniversary to everyone at the Board. May you have many more productive years in the future."
