Video Stories - Nick Schultz - Transcript

Nick SchultzHi. My name is Nick Schultz, I worked in the Law Branch from November 1981 to February 1985. I had made my first appearance before the Board three and a half years earlier, and then I began to act for public interest groups and during the course of that, only less than a year before I joined the Board, I had been pointing the finger of bias at the Chair of a hearing on the northern pipeline. It was Geoff Edge chairing it, and he was also Chair of the Board when I joined the Board. My very first board meeting I came into the room and sat at the, put me at the very far end of the table in a room with a cast of thousands, and there was Mr. Edge up at the other end looking at me and it happened that there was a question of bias on the table and he looked down the table at me and said "Mr. Schultz, is that bias?" And I don't remember what I said but obviously they didn't revoke the offer of employment and I had three and a half fun years at the Board. All of us who worked at the Board in that time and including my predecessors in the Law Branch, all of whom are excellent lawyers, owe a debt of gratitude to Fred Lamar, the General Counsel who hired us all and gave us all the opportunity to do some very exciting things. Still lots to get excited about in energy regulation and in my role as an advocate for my various clients over the years people have probably noticed I do get excited from time to time and passionate so I want to wish the Board all the best on its 50th Anniversary. It's an important institution in the national fabric of the country.
