Pierre LemieuxYes, hello everyone. Thanks for giving me this opportunity to speak to you. My name is Pierre Lemieux. I'm first vice-president of the Union des producteurs agricoles, the organization representing all agricultural producers in Quebec.

I'd like to say a few words on the occasion of the National Energy Board's 50th Anniversary. I had the pleasure of meeting Gaétan Caron three years ago at a CAMPUT event, attended by all the energy regulators and people involved in energy, including pipeline companies and people developing gas resources in Canada. I appreciated my initial contacts and relationships with the National Energy Board. And our organization, the UPA, is very pleased to have been involved in and made a contribution during the Land Matters Consultation Initiative. I am also very appreciative of the staff with whom we have worked, who I would describe as highly skilled and very, very diplomatic. We've also had the opportunity to work with National Energy Board staff on certain matters related to the construction of pipelines in Quebec. We also really appreciate the Energy Board's role as a mediator, and its role in this issue.

My vision for the Board's future includes two priorities that I think constitute an important role going forward, meaning the expectations of landowners that they could need greater protection as citizens because they are at somewhat of a disadvantage when it comes to dealing with large gas companies, and the resulting need to facilitate joint action via consumer associations. It would be very beneficial if the Board could earmark funds to ensure a minimal degree of representation by these organizations that represent landowners.

This is just a simple message I want to leave with you for the future, as I wish you a very happy 50th Anniversary. I hope that we can continue the solid working relationship enjoyed by our two excellent organizations.
