Video Stories - Ross White - Transcript

Ross WhiteHello my name is Ross White. It's an honour for me to be able to say something on the 50th Anniversary of the Energy Board. I started in the Board in 1973 which is about the same time Ken Vollman started and at that time Roland Priddle was Director of the Oil Policy Branch.

I had a great time at the Board from 1973 until 1990 when the Board moved to Calgary. Through that whole period it was such an exciting time. There were so many policy changes in oil and we had a lot of fun grappling with those problems. But the thing I remember most is the people and in particular the people I worked for in the Oil Policy Branch. Included among those was Peter Scotchmer who was beloved by everyone who worked for him. Peter was 100% loyal to his staff and even when they made mistakes, it seemed that when they made mistakes he was more loyal than at any other time. So we have had a lot of time to talk about Peter and to talk about that time in the past with folks like Rob Stevens, Bill Porter, Bruce Wells, Al Curry, Djamal Datou, Naseem Rhita, Sharon Kelly and others and without a question the highlight of their career was working for Peter and what a great guy he was and what a perfect boss he was. Notwithstanding some of the quirks he had, we all got along with him very well and loved that time.

More recently I've kept in touch with Ken and very few occasions with Gaétan. Gaétan started around 1990, excuse me 1980, when I was in the Pipelines Branch and it was fun seeing him as he gained more and more confidence in the job and then has moved on to where he is.

In closing thank you very much for this opportunity and I wish the Board a very happy 50th Anniversary.

Bye now.
