Short-Term Canadian Natural Gas Deliverability 2005-2007
Date: Monday, 31 October 2005
Time: 10:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
Location: National Energy Board

Hurricane damage in the Gulf has reduced North American energy supply at a critical time and is increasing reliance on Canadian oil and natural gas production. Natural gas prices are high and the Canadian industry has responded by accelerating its expansion of the drilling rig fleet, drilling more and deeper wells, and pursuing unconventional resources such as natural gas from coal (NGC). Despite the increases in investment and drilling activity, there has been little impact to this point on Canada's overall ability to produce natural gas - its natural gas deliverability.
To assist understanding of natural gas deliverability issues, the National Energy Board will be releasing an Energy Market Assessment report on Short-Term Canadian Natural Gas Supply Deliverability 2005-2007 on Monday, 31 October. In conjunction with the release of the report, the Board will be hosting a Public Briefing to discuss the findings of the analysis.
At the Public Briefing, the Board will present an overview of the report, followed by a brief question and answer session. A session will follow the Q&A where Board staff will provide details on critical aspects of Canada's current and future gas supply including an evaluation of the capability and operating characteristics of the western Canada drilling fleet, a detailed drilling projection, and trends in gas well productivity. A key feature will be the Board's assessment of Canadian NGC well characteristics and the country's rapidly developing NGC deliverability.
