National Energy Board schedules hearing for Redwillow Pipeline Project

CALGARY - The National Energy Board (NEB) has scheduled an oral hearing on an application from SemCAMS Redwillow ULC (SemCAMS) to construct and operate the Redwillow Pipeline Project.

The hearing is scheduled to start on Tuesday, 3 June 2008 at a location to be determined.

The proposed project is a 149.7 kilometre, 323.9 millimetre outside diameter pipeline from the Grizzly Valley area southwest of Tumbler Ridge, British Columbia into an existing gathering and processing facility located near Wapiti, Alberta. The pipeline would transport 70 million standard cubic feet per day of unprocessed sour natural gas from Shell Canada Energy's Wolverine River dehydration facility. If approved, the $160.7 million-project would begin construction in late 2008.

The public is invited to participate in this hearing in one of three ways:

  1. by filing a letter of comment;
  2. by making an oral statement; or,
  3. by seeking intervenor status.

Details on how to file a letter of comment can be found on the NEB website at www.neb-one.gc.ca under "Regulatory Documents - Submit" To make an oral statement or become an intervenor, people must first apply to the NEB. Application forms are available under the "Submit documents electronically" section of the NEB website.

The deadline for intervenor applications is 12:00 p.m. Mountain Daylight Time (MDT) on Friday, 29 February 2008. The deadline for letters of comment and oral statement applications is 12:00 p.m. MDT on Tuesday, 15 April 2008. Documents must be filed with the NEB either electronically through our website, by fax or mail. A copy of the letter or application must also be sent to SemCAMS and its legal counsel.

The NEB is an independent federal agency that regulates several parts of Canada's energy industry. Its purpose is to promote safety and security, environmental protection, and efficient energy infrastructure and markets in the Canadian public interest, within the mandate set by Parliament in the regulation of pipelines, energy development and trade.
