National Energy Board named one of Canada's Top 100 Employers

CALGARY - The National Energy Board (NEB) is proud to announce that it has been recognized by Maclean's magazine as one of Canada's Top 100 Employers for 2009.

"We are honoured to receive this national recognition," NEB Chair and CEO, Gaétan Caron said. "This is the first time we've received this award, and we will work hard to stay in the Top 100 for years to come."

Located in downtown Calgary, Alberta, the NEB promotes a balanced lifestyle to its approximately 320 employees. The NEB offers personal and career development opportunities, full benefits, comprehensive pensions, family friendly leave, flexible hours and banked time. The NEB also promotes active lifestyles through noon hour Pilates and yoga classes.

In partnership with Maclean's, Mediacorp Canada Inc. - the nation's largest publisher of employment guides and job-hunting periodicals and the manager of the annual Top 100 Employers competition - examined the recruitment histories of over 75,000 Canadian employers and invited 16,000 to apply. Mediacorp then evaluated over 2,000 detailed applications in order to determine this year's Top 100 Employers.

"This recognition supports our commitment to ensuring the NEB is a great place to work," Caron added. "It's the collective effort of our employees that makes us one of the Top 100 Employers in Canada."

Canada's Top 100 Employers profiles Canadian organizations that lead their industries in offering exceptional workplaces and benefits and creating an engaging work environment. The winning companies are recognized each October in a special issue of Maclean's magazine. Companies are evaluated on their performance in eight categories: physical workplace, work atmosphere and social, health, financial and family benefits, vacation and time-off, employee communications, performance management; training and skills development, and community involvement.

The NEB is an independent federal agency that regulates several parts of Canada's energy industry. Its purpose is to promote safety and security, environmental protection, and efficient energy infrastructure and markets in the Canadian public interest, within the mandate set by Parliament in the regulation of pipelines, energy development and trade.
