National Energy Board holds Pipeline Conference in Calgary
CALGARY - Representatives from Canada's top pipeline companies, regulators and stakeholders are in Calgary today for the National Energy Board's Forum 2009. The event, which runs on May 27 and May 28 at the Telus Convention Centre, will feature presentations on pipeline safety, security and emergency management.
Pipelines are considered to be the safest method of moving energy across the country and the National Energy Board is proud of its record for safety and environmental protection. However, the Board has observed a recent increase in the injury frequency among the men and women who work on the pipelines we regulate. How can we prevent these incidents from happening in the future? The National Energy Board Forum 2009 will answer this and other questions on safety, security and environmental concerns in the pipeline industry.
Attendees will also hear from leading oil and gas industry experts on real-life incidents, such as a recent oil pipeline rupture, and discussions on what it's like to drill in Canada's Arctic. The National Energy Board Forum 2009 will close with a panel discussion on trends in pipeline safety.
