What works well for CPTAQ
- Information service to answer questions from the public
- Publication of preliminary directions upon receipt and consideration of an application
- Meeting with and listening to all people opposing the preliminary directions
- Transparency and promoting specific criteria on which the commissioners base their decisions (often posted in the hearing room)
- Decision made between three weeks and one month after the hearing
Challenges
- Hearings are limited to the mandate of one statute
- Commissioners have a mandate - to protect agricultural land
- Problems achieving a fair balance of decorum and flexibility
Other
- Have not been recording hearings on tape for about eight years - they now write summaries and reports
Stream 4 - Pipeline Abandonment - Physical Issues
