We regret to announce the recent passing of Mr. Jack Stabback, former Chair of the National Energy Board from 1978-1980. In his early years at the Board, he served briefly on secondment in 1960, and then moved permanently to Ottawa in 1964 to work as the Board's chief engineer. Eventually, he was appointed a member of the Board in 1968, became associate vice-chairman in 1974, and became vice-chairman in 1976. In 1978, after serving as chairman of the Northern Pipelines hearings, he was appointed chairman of the Board. Mr. Stabback was always known for his incredible dedication to the organization, always putting in long hours. He is remembered fondly for his constant professionalism and thoroughness whenever he prepared for hearings.
We at the NEB are all deeply saddened by his passing. Our thoughts and prayers are with the Stabback family during this difficult time. - 2010-06-22
