Observations

- Access control rollback is in place on the Kettle Crossover Pipeline RoW, and is designed to prevent access from the Compressor Station road.

- Caribou range notification signage present.

Observations

- For site preparation, the organic layer has been stripped, and then stockpiled separately from the mineral soil from grading and excavation.

- Piles have been seeded with Fall Rye for erosion and weed control.

- Sediment fencing that is surrounding soil piles are being monitored regularly, and repaired as necessary to prevent soil run off during melting and rain events.

- Site representatives showed the location where a small hydrocarbon spill took place. Spill was reported, cleaned up and the contaminated soil was disposed of appropriately.

-Hazardous construction materials are stored in a trailer, and the containers have been identified with appropriate labelling.

-Stockpiled fire extinguishers were full, and the inspection record was on the tag.

-Fuel tanks on site were double walled, plus secondary containment in place to collect any spillage during filling.

Observations

- A containment ditch has been constructed around the perimeter of the station to contain a 1 in 50 year rain event.

- Periodic monitoring of the containment ditch will be conducted for water depth. If the containment is full, testing for contamination will be conducted, and then the water will either be trucked away or released into a well vegetated area with erosion control measures in place.

Observations

- All stationary equipment except for 2 heaters, had drip trays to ensure drips from filling with fuel did not contaminate the ground.

- All of the lighting plants had double walled tanks to reduce the risk of a release due to puncturing.

- Drip trays were placed under the “Frost Fighting Machines”.

Observations

- All workers wearing hearing protection at this location, and foam rimmed safety glasses being worn to reduce the risk of air born debris injuries.

- A Field Level Hazard Assessment (FLHA) was completed for the site, and the NEB Inspectors reviewed and signed.
