The Lifecycle Approach

We take safety, and the protection of the environment, seriously at the NEB…so, we regulate the full lifecycle of pipelines.

Starting with design and application, where we assess project plans.

We begin to inspect and audit during construction and continue throughout operation, and if maintenance, or a new installation is needed.

Finally, when a pipeline comes to the end of its operational life and is abandoned, we hold hearings to see that it’s done in a safe and environmentally friendly way.

We regulate from start to finish, even when projects take decades.

And we hold companies we regulate accountable for those projects so Canadians and the environment are protected.
