Trans Mountain clarifies its plans to cease construction

September 13, 2018

Questions have been raised regarding whether Trans Mountain is allowed to do any work around the pipeline right-of-way and related facilities, especially on Burnaby Mountain.

Trans Mountain has filed preliminary information [Filing A93959] with the National Energy Board (NEB) about its plans to cease construction on the Trans Mountain Expansion project. The NEB expects that Trans Mountain will safely cease all Trans Mountain Expansion project construction activity in a manner that minimizes environmental impact. As time is required to safely and securely halt construction, the NEB expects workers to be present along the pipeline route and at related facilities. The NEB will be actively monitoring Trans Mountain’s actions. The NEB also notes that the presence of workers may relate to the safe operation of the existing Trans Mountain facilities, which the company is required to maintain.
