The National Energy Board (NEB or Board) has received copies of the Senate Committee’s report on Moving Energy Safely: A Study of the Safe Transport of Hydrocarbons by Pipelines, Tankers and Railcars in Canada, and the Alberta Pipeline Safety Review report. We are currently reviewing both of these documents.
As part of our commitment to continual improvement, we welcome any information or recommendations that will help to improve pipeline safety in Canada. The Board is always interested in reviewing new information relevant to our mandate, and welcomes all opportunities to have meaningful discussions about pipeline safety in Canada.
Our role is to promote safety and security, economic efficiency and environmental protection in the Canadian public interest within the mandate set by Parliament for the regulation of pipelines crossing a provincial or international border.
We hold companies accountable during construction, post-construction, operation and abandonment, and will take all available actions to protect people and the environment.
